Lecture Series – A Chronicle of Nevada’s Great Basin

March 9 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$10

Piper’s Opera House and The Comstock Foundation present 2023’s lecture series.

“A Chronicle of Nevada’s Great Basin,” is an interesting and educational lecture for everyone, young or old. The lecture will be enlightening for Nevada Natives as well as informative for new residents or travelers just passing through the state. The lecture and Jerry’s book recognized the hardships faced by the hardiest of people.

The timeline begins with prehistoric man and moves onward to the early explorers that dared to challenge this harsh and uncharted area. The wagon train era provides a look at the adversities faced by these early pioneers as they confronted the unforgiving rigors of this barren land. It follows the tracks of the many railroads that once crisscrossed the basin. Journey along with those that first ventured into this vast, roadless part of the west in their quest to become the first to conquer the basin via motorized vehicles. Gaze at the sagebrush and playas through the goggles of early aviators as they ventured forth in their flying machines. Travel from wagon roads to modern-day interstates. The lecture will enhance your understanding of the history of the Silver State.

BIO: Jerry has traveled throughout the Silver State and met great people and seen the interworkings of Nevada firsthand. Intertwined with exploring ghost towns and airplane crashes were many years of automotive activities long before Hot August Night came into being. He has written freelance articles for several car magazines and spent eighteen years as Show Chairman for the Reno Autorama.

In recent years he has written history books on the history of this great state.

Doors open at 6:30 pm, Lecture starts at 7 pm
