Lecture Series: “The Fremont Cannon – Myth or Tale” by Jim Bonar
October 14, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$10
Join us for another exciting lecture brought to you by Piper’s Opera House and The Comstock Foundation!
Most who have lived in Nevada have heard of the Fremont Cannon. Did you know it was lost? You will hear the lively story of Lieutenant John C. Fremont’s trip to California, in 1844, through Nevada and the historical importance of the Fremont Cannon to Nevada. Is the State University’s cannon the real thing? What about the cannon in the State museum, is it the real thing? Many I will try to answer some of these, but many questions are still unanswered.
About the Lecturer
Jim is a locally retired High School teacher, ending his teaching career as a Mathematics teacher at Sparks high school. He became interested in roads as a young child in Green River Wyoming while watching the traffic passing through town, on Highway 30. Jim is Director, and past president of the Nevada chapter of the Lincoln Highway Association. This encouraged him to study and research many western events. He is a member of many of our local and state historical societies, so in his retirement activities he gives presentations of Western historical topics involving emigrant trails, western history and early roads to many local groups.
Lecture starts at 7pm; Doors open at 6:30pm – Purchase tickets HERE
