Lecture Series: Virginia City Cocktails 1870’s with Garrett Barmore (Rescheduled)
September 9, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$10
Join us for another exciting lecture brought to you by Piper’s Opera House and The Comstock Foundation!
In 1875 a staff writer for the New York Tribune wrote: “… here (Virginia City) are drinking saloons more gorgeous in appointment than any in San Francisco, Philadelphia, or New York…”.
Virginia City in the 1870s was a cosmopolitan town whose conveniences and services rivaled those found in San Francisco or even New York. Virginia City’s saloons and drinking culture were one of its most written about characteristics.
Garrett Barmore, curator of the Keck Museum at UNR, will present three historic cocktails and give a brief history of alcohol, food, and cocktail culture in 1870s Virginia City.
The staff at Piper’s will be preparing a gin cocktail for your tasting pleasure before and after the lecture (cocktail purchase not included in ticket price).
A raffle ticket is provided when you check in for the lecture. The raffle prize is a bottle of VCTC Cemetery Gin.
Tickets are $10/person.
Lecture starts at 7pm; Doors open at 6:30pm – Purchase tickets HERE
